An efficient alternative to Ollivier-Ricci curvature based on the Jaccard metric

چکیده
We study Ollivier-Ricci curvature, a discrete version of Ricci curvature, which has gained popularity over the past several years and has found applications in diverse fields. However, the Ollivier-Ricci curvature requires an optimal mass transport problem to be solved, which can be computationally expensive for large networks. In view of this, we propose two alternative measures of curvature to Ollivier-Ricci which are motivated by the Jaccard coefficient and are demonstrably less computationally intensive, a cheaper Jaccard (JC) and a more expensive generalized Jaccard (gJC) curvature metric. We show theoretically that the gJC closely matches the Ollivier-Ricci curvature for Erdös-Rényi graphs in the asymptotic regime of large networks. Furthermore, we study the goodness of approximation between the proposed curvature metrics and Ollivier-Ricci curvature for several network models and real networks. Our results suggest that in comparison to an alternative curvature metric for graphs, the Forman-Ricci curvature, the gJC exhibits a reasonably good fit to the Ollivier-Ricci curvature for a wide range of networks, while the JC is shown to be a good proxy only for certain scenarios.

Coarse Ricci curvature and the manifold learning problem
Abstract. We consider the framework used by Bakry and Emery in their work on logarithmic Sobolev inequalities to define a notion of coarse Ricci curvature on smooth metric measure spaces alternative to the notion proposed by Y. Ollivier. We discuss applications of our construction to the manifold learning problem, specifically to the statistical problem of estimating the Ricci curvature of a su...
متن کاملCoarse Ricci Curvature as a Function on M ×m
We use the framework used by Bakry and Emery in their work on logarithmic Sobolev inequalities to define a notion of coarse Ricci curvature on smooth metric measure spaces alternative to the notion proposed by Y. Ollivier. This function can be used to recover the Ricci tensor on smooth Riemannian manifolds by the formula Ric(γ′ (0) , γ′ (0)) = 1 2 d ds2 Ric4g (x, γ (s)) for any curve γ(s).
متن کاملOn three-dimensional $N(k)$-paracontact metric manifolds and Ricci solitons
The aim of this paper is to characterize $3$-dimensional $N(k)$-paracontact metric manifolds satisfying certain curvature conditions. We prove that a $3$-dimensional $N(k)$-paracontact metric manifold $M$ admits a Ricci soliton whose potential vector field is the Reeb vector field $xi$ if and only if the manifold is a paraSasaki-Einstein manifold. Several consequences of this result are discuss...

In Riemannian geometry, Ricci curvature controls how fast geodesics emanating from a common source are diverging on average, or equivalently, how fast the volume of distance balls grows as a function of the radius. Recently, such ideas have been extended to Markov processes and metric spaces. Employing a definition of generalized Ricci curvature proposed by Ollivier and applied in graph theory ...
متن کاملRicci curvature of metric spaces
We define a notion of Ricci curvature in metric spaces equipped with a measure or a random walk. For this we use a local contraction coefficient of the random walk acting on the space of probability measures equipped with a transportation distance. This notions allows to generalize several classical theorems associated with positive Ricci curvature, such as a spectral gap bound (Lichnerowicz th...
